The Language of Gratitude Keeps You on Speaking Terms With Happiness

If you've forgotten the language of gratitude, you'll never be on speaking terms with happiness. - Unknown

In Marci Shimoff's book, "Happy for No Reason" she tells the story of a woman who had gone through a painful divorce, was dealing with the death of her mother, and because of financial circumstances was forced to move in with her elderly father. The two of them were about "as glum as two people could be." Hearing about the power of gratitude from some friends, they decided to give it a try by expressing three things that they were grateful for in the morning before the daughter left for work. The first day was very difficult and she was having a hard time figuring out anything for which she could be grateful. Finally, the only thing that she found to be grateful for was a pretty vase that they had in the house. It was all she could muster.

As time went on, the practice became easier and easier. Eventually she and her father had to stop before they were both done or she would be late for work. The added the singing of "Oh What a Beautiful Morning" to their repertoire and their mornings were soon filled with joy.

The Language of Gratitude Keeps You on Speaking Terms With Happiness

Think about the first time you worked out lifting weights. Maybe you started with a five-pound weight and you were stunned at how 'heavy' it was. However, as you consistently added weightlifting to your workout regime, you found that that five pound weight soon became too light. You then progressed to a ten pound, then twenty pound and maybe even up to fifty-pounds (ok, maybe not.) The point is, the more you practiced, the stronger you became.

Just like working out, gratitude is a PRACTICE. When you first decide to incorporate a gratitude practice, you might find that your muscles are "wimpy, wimpy, wimpy" (remember the old trash bag commercial?) You have to really struggle just to come up with three things for which you can express thanks.

However, when you consistently practice the art of appreciation, you gratitude muscle will strengthen and will become "hefty, hefty, hefty" (same commercial).

Repetition strengthens us. You will find that when you develop the habit of thankfulness, no matter what happens, you will be able to find a way to be grateful for it. Your perspective will shift and it becomes easier to see the glass as 'half-full.' There may be days that the only thing you can find to be grateful for is a pretty vase in the house. Start with when you can, with what you have, where you are. Once you get started, you'll get into a groove, and the gratitude will flow.

Start your gratitude list today by writing down a list of EVERYTHING for which you are grateful. You may want to set the a timer for a certain period and write. The first items will come quickly. Continue to write, without stopping or thinking about what you're writing. You'll develop a list on which some things that came up may surprise you. Put this list in a place where you can access it on the days you really need it. Add to the list as often as you can. This is a project that you can work on as long as you choose - and as your gratitude muscle grows stronger, so will you.

Have fun,

Lisa

Happiness: Learn the Secret to Feeling Happy Every Day

Happiness is easy when you learn the secret to adding happy moments to every day of your life. You don't have to wait for happiness. You can have it right now, today!

If you have ever found yourself at home thinking about what you need to do at work, or at work thinking about things happening in your personal life, you know how distracting and stressful that can be. It doesn't create a lot of happiness. So... what is the secret to Feeling Happy no matter what you are doing?

Here's the answer...

Happiness: Learn the Secret to Feeling Happy Every Day

You can be happy every day when you learn to - Live in the Moment-. Living in the moment means you are totally immersed in an experience. You can relate to this when you think of the special times in your life.

Every Life Has Some Magical Moments - What Are Yours?

Think back on the events in your life that you vividly remember. Those are the events where you were -living in the moment-. Even though years have passed, you can still remember all the details.

My Wedding Day
Although many years have passed since my wedding day, and I can still picture myself as a young bride dressed in a beautiful white gown. I can still hear our "special song" and feel the immense joy I felt then as I walked down the aisle toward my soon-to-be husband.

The Day I Conquered the Mountain
I vividly remember my first ski trip when, after taking my first chairlift ride up the mountain, I didn't know how I would ever get down. I was terrified! As I slowly skied down the slope with my instructor, I was so frightened I was shaking, but I was also experiencing the thrill of the moment. I will always remember the incredible feeling I experienced as I finally reached the bottom - conquering my first ski slope.

Most Days Have Ordinary Moments
Living in the moment is easy during special times in your life. However, most days don't contain special events, and unless you learn to live in the moment, worry, fear, resentments or other distractions will rob you of your happiness.
Wayne Dyer in his many books talks about the compulsion some people have of always wanting more before they can be happy - more money, a better house, a fancier car, a better spouse, etc. Those people never get to a place of arriving - or enjoying the moment.

Ten Easy Ways to Practice - Living in the Moment

Living in the moment takes practice because you are used to being distracted. Make a special effort to consciously practice being totally immersed in what you are doing for some time every day. When distracting thoughts enter your mind, simply refocus on what you are doing. Here are some ideas to get you started.

1. Take a Bubble Bath
Play some soft music. Relax and feel the warmth of the water. Just think of how you are enjoying the moment.

2. Drive a Different Route to Work
Get off the highway, and take the city streets to work. As you drive, notice the trees and houses as you pass through different neighborhoods. Going a different way will also help you concentrate on your surroundings.

3. Eat a Gourmet Meal
Set aside money for your special dinner so that you won't feel guilty about spending the money. You will experience living in the moment as you enjoy the total experience of the atmosphere, the service, the people you are with, and the delicious food.

4. Play a Sport
For example, when you play tennis, you have to concentrate and be aware of everything that is happening at the moment. There isn't time to lament over the last shot because another one is coming right back at you.

5. Dance to Your Favorite Music
You will become immersed in the music as your body moves to it, and you will begin to feel vibrant and alive.

6. Play a Card Game
When you play games such as bridge or poker, you have to concentrate or you risk losing the game.

7. Take up a Creative Hobby
Painting, woodwork, or crafts will absorb all your attention as you focus on your creation.

8. Take a Vacation
Vacations are rejuvenating and energizing because you are physically away from the day-to-day cares of living and totally immersed in sight seeing or other vacation activities.

9. Look at the Funny Side of Life
Notice how people who are always preoccupied with worry, resentment or other things don't usually have a sense of humor. Having a sense of humor requires living in the moment because you have to look all around for the funny things that are happening.

10. Keep a Journal
At the end of each day, write about the moments when you were totally present. Every week review your journal. Doing this, will encourage you to concentrate on what you are doing.
By practicing the secret of -living in the moment- a little more every day, you will develop a habit that will add meaning, vitality, and yes, that elusive feeling of happiness, to every day of your life.

Sources of Happiness

During this current age where depression, anxiety, angerness, lack of tolerance and much more related symptoms are very common among peoples, I always think of happiness. I think that happiness is a feeling rather than a thing that we need to borrow or to snatch it from some other person. Feeling depends on the sensitivity of a person so it varies from an individual to another. If there are shops which sell happiness then it must be one of the most expensive product of this century.

In spite of frustration and negative approach we need to find out the sources of happiness and to rise the sense of its feeling in us. Good relationships, helping poors and needy peoples, believe in religion, visiting attractive places, money, purposeful life, positive thoughts are the sources of happiness. I analyzed that all above factors contribute in giving happiness to many peoples belonging to different casts, religions and races.

Money as a source of happiness is controversial among many peoples as a lot of peoples which are rich but not happy. I read that with rising economy and living standards in UK, peoples are sacrificing their relationships and mental peace. Now i would like to elaborate my point. In developed countries money become a part of their life rather than a need. I have seen many poor peoples which got happiness by getting money because money is their need. Helping poor and needy people or poor relatives will give us internal satisfaction of being a good human and this intern gives us happiness.

Sources of Happiness

The strong and close relationship with family peoples and friends also provide us happiness. Our mental development in childhood play a major role in our psychic development. It is how a child learn from his family members, most probably from his parents to sense the happiness. I observed that some people don't get happy by little success because of their childhood development during which they didn't learn to feel happiness on little success.

To believe in GOD also provide us mental happiness. I observed that people attached with their religion seems to be more happy than others as religion makes our life purposeful. The way you think also effects your happiness level. Positive thinking always produces hope and satisfaction which enhance happiness in us.

If you are still not so much happy than you must be lacking many of above habits. The happiness is waiting to enter in your life but if you try to give you life, a positive change which are described above.

Professional Makeup Artist, My New Obsession!

My friend thought it would be cool for me to write a little about my life and let the world out there know about me. So here are a few notes about my thoughts and how I became a professional makeup artist and why it became my new obsession. First I would like to ask you something, dear reader. Did you ever get that freaky feeling that the thing you are doing in your life is just wrong? That you are jumping from one idea to another and whatever you start doing just isn't the thing? Or at school, did you ever get the feeling that what you are studying doesn't even interest you that much at all?

I don't know about you, but I had all those feelings combined inside me all my life. I was jumping from one thing to another and I just couldn't find the thing that would be my passion. Earning money for me was boring because I wanted my life to be unique, not just earn money, pay the bills, eat, sleep, go to work again...

Happiness

Did becoming a professional makeup artist find the right place in my heart, where other jobs couldn't? Absolutely! I will tell you where it started.

Professional Makeup Artist, My New Obsession!

I always liked to watch people. When I was driving by the bus, walking down the street, listening the teacher at school, driving with my car around, I always watched people what they wear, how they look, how they move, how they smile, why someone is sad or why someone is happy. And of course, since I'm a guy, I liked watching girls the most. Girls are the most beautiful beings that exist in our universe, period! And one day it struck me. I want to do something that will make girls look more beautiful and make them happier. So there I got an idea to become a professional makeup artist. Even though I was studying computers, which seemed to promise a good career, I left high school. Nobody understood why I did this. Nobody understood my true passion and that I wanted to do something that really can make me feel whole and great. So I went to makeup class and later with a lot of practice and hard work became a professional makeup artist.

I found out that my new profession is even better than I ever thought it would be. It is such a big challenge because every girl, every face is different. And this challenge totally obsessed me, not to mention the happiness when girls see their new gorgeous looks. My life changed so much since I've become a professional makeup artist. Everything got the meaning in my life now, even the things I used to think that will never have a part in my life are now there. It's such a great feeling to do something from true passion, to feel being able to accomplish just anything and to help others by doing it!

I encourage you to lie down, close your eyes, relax and think for a moment. Are you happy with your life at this moment? Do you really do the things from your passion, and do you love what you do? If the answer is positive, then I am greatly happy for you, keep on the good work! If however you answer is a »no«, I advise you to find your passion!

I found my by becoming a professional makeup artist. My life now is full of energy, motivation and happiness. I encourage you to find your own passion and feel the same as I do. It's worth it! You get obsessed with it and it's totally okay!

The Pursuit of Happiness and the American Dream - It's All About Improving the Quality of Life

What did Thomas Jefferson have in mind when he penned the the phrase, "the pursuit of happiness?" Depending on your beliefs and point of view the meaning hinges on the interpretation of the word happiness. Happiness means something different to each of us, but in general most people would probably agree that happiness has a lot to do with improving the quality of life at all levels.

While there may be an over emphasis on capitalism in American society and the ever present drive for the almighty dollar, at its root this peculiar American characteristic is based on the desire to improve the quality of life. Yes, it may have become distorted over the years by the misguided notion that money will bring happiness, but we shouldn't downplay the importance of the drive to have enough money to live a comfortable life. The American dream of owning a home and having a business or a job that can offer financial stability and independence is part of our heritage. We as a people are the ones who in a very real sense have raised the bar high in establishing the ideals of life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

Happiness

At the very inner core of the American consciousness, beyond the material things, is the conviction and the unshakable belief in the freedom of ideas. It is the freedom of ideas, above all, that that is worth fighting and dying for, because without this liberty all other freedoms would be hollow. American ingenuity and inventiveness is based on the notion that no system and no set of beliefs is beyond questioning.

The Pursuit of Happiness and the American Dream - It's All About Improving the Quality of Life

If Einstein had not challenged the conventional beliefs and scientific precepts of his time he would not have made the remarkable contributions that he did. The drive to improve the quality of life is an inborn quality in each of us, but it is the unique American trait of casting aside false assumptions and limiting ideas that sets the standard for all to follow. We must not judge ourselves, therefore, by lesser standards and rest on our laurels, but measure ourselves against our own ideals. If we do this as a people and as a nation then the future is indeed bright.

How Does Color Affect Your Mood?

Color is everywhere and for the most part we don't even think about it.

But how does color affect your mood when the room is a nice soft green? Are you agitated? Does it promote a calming effect and make you feel relaxed?

Happiness

How about a beautiful landscape photograph or painting with many shades of green? How does that make you feel? Green symbolizes nature. It is a refreshing color that can revitalize and make you feel healthy.

How Does Color Affect Your Mood?

Many hospital rooms feature green as their primary color. It is relaxing and very restful on the eyes.

You can also be green with envy or jealousy.

It can be the color of spring, new growth and vigor. Then again it can convey inexperience and misfortune. It all depends on how you decide to use it.

Green can actually lower one's heart rate and blood pressure. It is the most relaxing color.

Let's check out a few other colors and see what they can mean psychologically to the viewer.

Red is considered to be an intense and emotional color. It certainly attracts attention. Remember that green landscape? What happens when you see that field filled with bright, red, Indian Paintbrush wildflowers? Attracts your attention doesn't it?

Red is mostly used as an accent color just for that purpose. Its fiery feelings can promote power, aggression, blood and war.

It can also be a color of love, desire and passion. Rather ironic but it shows how things can change depending upon how you use it.

Varying shades of red like pink tends to promote a more tranquil energy field.

Blue is the peaceful color of the open sky and the oceans. It produces calming, tranquil feelings within the body. To many people it is their favorite color.

Winter scenes are cold and can even feel depressing at times. Shadows in the snow are very blue even on sunny days. Remember those winter photographs in your album, all cast in blue?

People who work in blue rooms are more productive than rooms of any other color. In Feng Shui it is an energy color promoting harmony and good Chi.

Blue is also a color of loyalty, stability and dependability. A good thing to remember for business meetings for both the clothes you wear and the room itself. If you want to convey a conservative feeling, try blue.

How about a bright yellow Sunflower how does that make you feel, joyful and hopeful? Do warm sunny images bring happiness to your thoughts?

Yellow can be used to enhance your concentration and imagination. We use yellow legal pads for business and schoolwork. Wonder why they are yellow?

Sometimes yellow is used to mean cowardice or the feeling of being dishonest. People who run from a battle or war are thought to be a coward.

Yellow flashing lights mean a hazard is ahead, be cautious.

It can be used to speed up your metabolism and even though it is an optimistic color more people will loose their temper in a yellow room. It might be a good suggestion to paint your meeting room a nice blue tone.

This attention getting color is capable of enhancing many different moods.

What do you think of the color white? Do images of peace, innocence, maybe snow or perhaps a peaceful setting?

In Western culture white is used at weddings to symbolize reverence and purity.

It is a very neutral color that goes with just about everything. Hospitals use white for the symbolism of cleanliness and to convey a sterile setting.

Does black denote evil, anger, death and sadness in your thoughts and emotions? Black is a strong powerful hue that denotes authority and power yet it also implies submission. It all depends how it is used.

Black is a popular fashion color because it makes the wearer appear thinner to the viewer.

So as you can see color is a form of non-verbal communication. Our minds perceive their meanings in how we wear clothing, design web sites and advertising or paint our homes.

We can mix and match varying hues establishing brightness and intensity giving many different kinds of physical and psychological reactions. Understanding color helps us to communicate, giving visual vibrations that push objects forward for attention or reduces them to the background.

It is all about perception and how we use them to describe our thoughts and express our feelings.

The Power of Persistence

I went recently to see the movie 'The Pursuit of Happiness'; if you haven't seen it, please go, it is great. It could be the story of so many of us and it is about some of the most important qualities we need in order to succeed and be happy.

It begins with a dream...well it is a dream we all have...to be happy...a good life...but for some people, maybe someone you know, maybe you, it seems that things do not really work out, and difficulties keep coming up.
Maybe you have experienced a difficult beginning in life, and you feel this is still preventing you from being the best you can be, and you feel disadvantaged, scarred. Or maybe you have experienced in the course of your life pain, redundancy, loss, separation, or else, and you feel that your energy is depleted.

Happiness

And what happens to many of us after a while that we keep 'struggling', the mind might begin to become negative and there might be the temptation to give in to difficulties. And maybe we start looking at other people, at people who are happier or more successful than us and we feel envious, but this does not help.

The Power of Persistence

What helps instead is looking for successful people who have beaten the odds, who have overcome maybe the same past, maybe the same problems, and achieved what you want to achieve, and learn from them, because if you apply to your life, remaining true to yourself, what they have done, you will get where they are and have what they have, happiness and success. It is simply a question of learning their strategies.

And one of the qualities you will see in all of these people, and you will see also in the movie, is the tenacity, the determination, the persistence to never ever give up, no matter what, and to keep following your dreams.

So, once you know your dreams, once you know what you really want, just go for it, and never ever give it up. Be prepared to put in a lot of effort, because that is the price you need to pay at the beginning for having it all. And once you have made a start everything will become much easier.

Another very important thing you need to do is have faith.

There is such an extraordinary power within you that wants the very best for you; that wants you to be well and be happy; that wants you to have in your life all the love you desire and deserve; that wants you to be successful; that wants you to create and live the life of your dreams.

And once you know what this power is, you will be able to heal yourself, to create, attract and manifest in your life anything that you truly want. But you need to know how to use it properly, because otherwise it simply creates what you do not want.

And then you will see that actually what you thought of as disadvantages, the difficulties in your life, have become your advantage, because they have enabled you to be the best you can be; they have enabled you to achieve what some people only dream of.

But in order to get there, you need never ever to give up. You need to keep going even when the going gets tough, because you are made of strong stuff.

I know you are certainly not a quitter, you are a winner, and I have the certainty you will be able to create and achieve whatever it is that you truly want. It is just a question of learning how the Laws of the Universe really work and you are already there.

And you are going to make of your life a true masterpiece that reflects who you really are.
